Giving credit where it is due

Monday, October 5th, 2009

I’m the first to dog the Steelers’ offensive line after every bad performance, which is just about every week these days. Except for last night.

I will give credit to where it is due and sing the praises of the O-line’s efforts last night. Sure, Rashard Mendenhall had a coming out party, but it was made possible by the work done upfront.

On top of that, did you notice Ben had ALL DAY to throw every time he stepped back into the pocket? Ben was sacked a few times, but just about each one was on his shoulders because he held on to the ball for so long — not because the protection broke down.

I won’t get too analytical in this post, basically because 1) I’m too lazy to do so right now and 2) you all watched the game and saw anyways.

But this man was a beast all night long.

Im talking about KEMO, not Snoop.

I'm talking about KEMO, not Snoop.

The numbers, in case you didn’t see them:

Mendenhall: 29 rushes for 165 yards and two touchdowns.

Big Ben: 26 for 33 for 333 yards and two touchdowns

HEEEAAATTTTHH: 8 catches for 70 yards and two touchdowns

O-line: One fucking masterful performance.

… more to follow.

Fearless predictions

Saturday, October 3rd, 2009

Remember, I’m a pessimist. Take these lightly. Also, almost all of my predictions turn out wrong.

Reports are that Fast Willie is out and Isaac Redman has been placed on the squad. Prediction #1) Redman will have no impact on this game.

#2) Mendenhall will get at least 65 yards rushing and a touchdown.

The defense, which will still be without Troy, will impress. I’m thinking 3.5 sacks between Woodley and Harrison for #3). If the Steelers lose, it won’t be because the defense didn’t show up.

#4) Cotter will bring his “A” game to the live blog.

And keep in mind what I said about my predictions (they are usually wrong, since I know you didn’t remember what I said) before you read the fifth, and final, one. #5) The Steelers will lose.

That being said …

Here we go.

Running back poll results

Wednesday, September 23rd, 2009

I’m finally ending the second poll. Left it up for a bit just to see what the response might be. In it, I asked who you thought would finish the season as the Steelers leading rusher. The results:

Fast Willie … 12 votes
MEMO … 8 votes
Mendenhall … 6 votes
Other … 2 votes

The readers believe that Willie will remain the starter and get the carries needed to remain the leading rusher when the season ends. I was surprised to see MEMO leading this poll at one point, but I understand. Mendenhall of fame really hasn’t proven anything yet, but I wonder the most, is who the other two votes are for. Big Ben? Redman?

Time will tell with this. If you don’t already have the stats memorized, here’s how it looks after week 2:

Fast Willie … 66 yards on 27 carries
MEMO … 21 yards on 7 carries
Mendenhall of fame … 45 yards on 7 carries

As far as fantasy goes, Yahoo! is directing its players to drop Fast Willie and snatch another back, due the Steelers increasing problems to move the ball.

In fact, the post indicates that Mendenhall is a strong buy. I don’t see it right now.

I’ve said numerous times that nothing is going to change without a different offensive line. But it also doesn’t help that the first two weeks came against some tough defenses in Tennessee and Chicago. I’m going to go out on a limb and say that someone on this team will rush for 100 yards against Cincinnati on Sunday. My best guess is that it will be Willie because he is the starter and remains Tomlin’s guy.

Fuck Yahoo. Start Willie.

New poll soon to be up. Give it a look.
